Why We Created This Guide

In early 2026, our family made the leap from Melbourne to Penang. Two young kids, lots of baggage (literally!), and a whole lot of hope that this island would become our home.

Before we moved, we spent months researching Penang. But here's the thing: every guide was either written for backpackers or business travelers. Nobody was talking about the stuff parents actually need to know:

Which hawker centers have high chairs? Where can we find a pediatrician at 10pm? What do we do when our toddler refuses all Malaysian food? Which beaches have jellyfish? How do we avoid the cruise ship crowds?

We learned all this the hard way—through trial, error, and a few tears (mostly ours, sometimes the kids').

Now, we want to save you from the same mistakes.

Our Background

Before Penang, we co-founded and exited a beverage brand in Australia (The Good Seed Kefir). We've worked in business development, sales, and venue management. We know what it's like to juggle work, kids, travel, and staying sane.

These days, we run KamiFamily—our family travel brand documenting life in Penang and Southeast Asia. We spend about 5-7 hours a week creating content, testing restaurants, finding hidden gems, and basically being your guinea pig for family adventures.
